After a stellar performance at the Continental Baseball Association's World Series,Bomb Squad Coach Kurtis Kintzel submitted the team's application and request for a bid to participate in this World Championship tournament and received their invitation for the qualifying tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Per Coach Kurtis Kintzel, "These tournaments are scouted by the major colleges baseball program as well as pro scouts, which makes participation exciting and very special for the team. Players improve their skills by playing against the best competition in the country and it will be at this tournament. We're honored and happy to be invited as one of the top 100 teams in the country and expect to do well at this qualifier." Bomb Squad captains Jake Kintzel, Jon Rodriguez, and Vince Tornincasa will be ready to play and lead their veteran squad. These players have been on the field together since they were 9, winning the travel ball world series at age 12, a #1 state ranking in Indiana and numerous tournaments championships over the years. Other teams participating in this year's tournament include: The World Wood Bat Association is a natural extension of Perfect Game USA, the nation's leading scouting service for elite level baseball players. Perfect Game has built its reputation primarily around individual showcase events but, following the national trend towards select and national travel teams, it began adding team events in recent years.
The success in particular of the Perfect Game/Baseball America Championship held annually in late October in Jupiter, Florida led to the creation of the World Wood Bat Association as the organizing body for the team events. Because of the demand for spots in the Championship in 2002, three qualifying tournaments under the WWBA umbrella were set up. 2002 also saw the introduction of the WWBA Senior Championship in early July at Marietta, GA, an event that quickly become one of the highlights of the professional scouts and college coaches summer schedule. 2003 has already seen the establishment of a WWBA Junior Championship in mid-July in Marietta and numerous other regional events.
The World Wood Bat Association doesn't seek to supplant the efforts of organizations such as American Legion, Connie Mack, CABA or Babe Ruth. The WWBA's purpose is to add a layer at the top of expanding youth baseball market to ensure that the top baseball players have a chance to compete against each other and in front of professional scouts and college coaches.
Using the experienced Perfect Game staff ensures that every WWBA event will be organized and run with precision. Likewise, members of the WWBA teams are exposed to Perfect Game scouts for inclusion in the various Perfect Game scouting services.
The World Wood Bat Association website (www.worldwoodbat.com) is an integral part of the WWBA and the benefits it provides its members. It seeks to serve the needs of its member teams by providing them a website for their rosters, schedules, tournament management and team news. It also serves the needs of the scouting and coaching communities by providing extensive evaluations on literally thousands and thousands of some of the top young baseball players.
The WWBA already has hundreds of active member teams without any real organized efforts aside from a couple of events. As the number of events expand, especially into different age groups, and the utility and convenience of the web site becomes well known, that membership number will expand rapidly as well.
